Required Qualifications: Doctoral Degree or foreign equivalent degree. Expertise in Molecular Genetics or closely related subject. Work independently. Expertise with some standard molecular genetic system (e.g., yeast, E. coli, flies, C. elegans, Arabidopsis, cultured cells) and standard techniques of molecular biology including manipulation of DNA and RNA and PCR. Familiarity with quantitative approaches (e.g. statistics, computational approaches). All as evidenced by Ph. D. thesis, publications, or letters of recommendation.
Preferred Qualifications: PhD or MD in Molecular Genetics. Experience with the yeasts S. cerevisiae or S. pombe. Experience in analysis of microarray gene expression data. Some practical knowledge of computer programming and statistics. Training or experience in cell cycle, meiosis, or protein translation. Experience with some high-throughput technology.

Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The position is for a molecular geneticist to study the cell cycle, and/or meiosis, in the yeast S. cerevisiae. Main responsibilities include:

  • Experimental analysis of the cell cycle or related processes.
  • Analysis of data.
  • Writing papers.
  • Managing the laboratory, and providing guidance to graduate students and technicians.
Special Notes: This is a full time position. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
