>> reporter: once the fog lifted on interstate 10 in texas , the devastation was clear. more than 100 vehicles, some piled on top of one another, mangled, twisted metal , first responders arrived to chaos. you've got a lot of people that were traveling for thanksgiving today

>> it was very difficult, you got a lot of people traveling on thanksgiving day today. so being involved in the crash, you had a lot of people on the roads, people were still in their vehicles.

>> reporter: at least two people died, and more than 80 people were transported to area hospitals.

>> visibility to near zero here in the city.

>> reporter: fog was also blamed for air and road travel delays in detroit, lifting just in time for the city's thanksgiving day parade in what became an unusually warm day. people in the windy city were enjoying their own holiday parade. the streets were packed with spectators, thankful for the mild weather. but it won't last.

>> the big-time reality check will come in a day or two, much, much colder air coming through.

>> reporter: that means for much of the midwest, it will be a very cold black friday. diana alvear, nbc news, los
