Police search for suspects after assault, robbery of Rome store owner

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Police are investigating after they say a store owner in the city of Rome was assaulted and robbed as he was closing up Wednesday night.

According to Rome Police, Bill Izzo was closing up his store, Bill's Variety on West Thomas Street, around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. As he and his wife were getting into their car with his wife, police say two men wearing Halloween masks and dark colored clothing attacked Izzo, removing a purse from the car and then fleeing on foot.

Izzo was not injured during the incident and his wife, who police say was also in the vehicle at the time of the robbery, was also uninjured.

Police said the suspects are described as males, wearing unknown type Halloween masks and dark colored clothing. They fled on foot and were last seen running northbound on Ashland Ave from West Thomas Street.
